Over the weekend Sony announced details of the next firmware release for the F5 & F55 cameras. The update contains some much-requested enhancements, namely picture cache and support for user generated 3D LUTs. Picture cache will give you recording up to 15 seconds in 50 Mbps 4:2:2, up to 8 seconds in XAVC HD 2K, and up to 2 seconds in XAVC QFHD 4K. User 3D LUT support means we will be able to load custom 3D LUTs into the camera to create different looks. This is a great feature and we are looking forward to making our popular AbelCine looks into compatible 3D LUTs. This update also features a number of other great features, including a customizable user menu and full HDMI 2.0 support for 4K up to 60p:

  • Picture cache
  • User generated 3D LUTs
  • Simultaneous recording with HDCAM SR and 50 Mbps 4:2:2 to SxS PRO+ cards
  • User menu customization, with up to twenty fequently needed menu items in a single list
  • VF markers supporting seven colors
  • REC start / stop with lens RET button
  • Zoom and focus control with CBK-DCB01
  • Menu control on the SUB display
  • F55 – HDMI v2 supporting 4K on 29p, 50p and 60p, QFHD on 29, 50p and 60p

Check out the full list of features on Sony’s Community site and look for the new firmware to hit around April 4th.
